'Kolaveri di', a song from the upcoming Tamil movie '3', sung by popular Tamil movie star Dhanush has become an internet rage.
The promo of the song, which was released on November 16, became an instant hit on social networking sites for its quirky 'Tanglish' (Tamil-English) lyrics. The promo features the actor-playback singer Dhanush, son-in-law of superstar Rajinikanth, singing the song in a studio, and composer Anirudh at the piano, while wife & the director Aishwarya Rajinikanth and co-star Shruti Hassan watch along and give suggestions.
'White skin-u girl-u girl-u, Girl-u heart-u black-u Eyes-u eyes-u meet-u meet-u, My future dark. Why this Kolaveri Kolaveri Kolaveri di?' Either these lines are being played and replayed on YouTube, or updated as Facebook statuses. This new song, officially released a week back, is part of Tamil film 3, directed by Aishwarya Dhanush, superstar Rajinikanth’s daughter. His son-in-law Dhanush has sung the song; he also stars in the film with Shruti Hassan. Ever since its launch, the song has gone viral on the web with over 13.9 lakh hits on YouTube already.

“Why this Kolaveri Di is as simple as it is silly. Perhaps that is what has made the song a phenomenon,” says Dhanush. The wacky lyrics stemmed from an impromptu jam session a couple of months ago. Dhanush entered the music studio, heard the catchy tune and, as he puts it, “Took a mic and just started singing!”
The lyrics of the peppy song are simple and since it is a live recording, Dhanush keeps firing instructions while singing, making it more endearing.
