LINKIN PARK RELEASING SONGS TO BENEFIT HAITI
Rockers LINKIN PARK have teamed up with stars including PETER GABRIEL, ALANIS MORISSETTE and ENRIQUE IGLESIAS to release a digital charity album to benefit the Haiti relief effort.
Frontman Mike Shinoda created the project, titled Download to Donate for Haiti, with nine songs that can be downloaded in return for a donation to help the earthquake-ravaged country, which was hit by a massive tremor last week (12Jan10).
Other stars to contribute music to the campaign - run in conjunction with Linkin Park's Music For Relief charity - include former Guns N' Roses star Slash, the Dave Matthews Band and The All-American Rejects, while Shinoda is hoping more songs by top acts will be added this week (begs18Jan10).
He says, "Download to Donate has come together very, very quickly. It was an idea as of Thursday - and as of right now, we have nine songs up. We ask that you donate, but you don't have to - if all you can afford is to spread the word, embed the widget, share it on Facebook, Twitter, whatever, then that will be good enough. We're hoping to raise a lot of money for a lot of people who need it in Haiti.
"We started our organisation, Music for Relief, back in 2005 after the tsunami in South Asia. Music for Relief's goal is to provide relief, funds and awareness in the wake of natural disasters. This is the first time that the technology has been available to do something like this; just a few years ago, it wouldn't be possible for artists to turn around songs so quickly, in a matter of days."
Slash adds, "We're encouraging people to give what they can. There’s no right or wrong amount. The people of Haiti are in desperate need of food, fresh water, shelter and medical supplies and every little bit helps.”
