Aadukalam is a 2011 Tamil drama film written and directed by Vetrimaran. The film stars Dhanush, Taapsee Pannu, V. I. S. Jayabalan, and Kishore. The film was released on 14 January 2011 to highly positive reviews.It won six awards at the 58th National Film Awards, including the awards for Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Actor.

Siruthai is a 2011 Indian Tamil action-masala film directed by Siva. A remake of the Telugu blockbuster Vikramarkudu, directed by S. S. Rajamouli, the film stars Karthi, performing dual roles, and Tamannaah Bhatia alongside comedian Santhanam. The film was produced by K. E. Gnanavelraja and features music by Vidyasagar. It was released during Pongal on 14 January 2011 to mixed reviews but went on to become a commercial success.There was trouble in the film set because of Rocket Raja who was a real person.

Kaavalan is a 2011 Tamil romantic drama film written and directed by Siddique, starring Vijay and Asin in the lead roles. The film is a remake of Siddique's previous Malayalam film Bodyguard. It features Rajkiran, Mithra Kurian, Roja and Vadivelu in supporting roles with musical score composed by Vidyasagar. The film's principal shoot commenced in April 2010 and was completed by November 2010. Following several hurdles, Kaavalan released on 15 January 2011 to generally positive reviews. It was selected to be screened at the Shanghai International Film Festival out of many projects submitted by India.
Payanam is a 2011 Indian Tamil drama thriller film written and directed by Radha Mohan. Being made simultaneously in Telugu as Gaganam, the film deals with a flight hijacking incident.It stars Nagarjuna in the lead along with Prakash Raj, Poonam Kaur, Sana Khan, Iqbal Yaqub, Brahmanandam and Bharath Reddy amongst others. Produced by Prakash Raj himself, Payanam was released on 11 February 2011.

Ko is a 2011 Indian Tamil political thriller film directed by K. V. Anand starring Jeeva, Ajmal Ameer, newcomer Karthika Nair and Piaa Bajpai. The film was released on 22 April 2011 to mostly positive reviews and became one of the biggest grosser in 2011,and was dubbed into Telugu as Rangam as well.The story of the movie is loosely based on Russell Crowe's State of Play (2009).The film will be remade in Hindi with Ranbir Kapoor depicting the role of Jeeva and Karthika Nair reprising her role.

Vaanam is an anthology film. The story revolves around five individuals from different walks of life, representing the five natural elements—sky, air, water, fire and earth and illustrates how their fates intertwine on New Year's Eve at a hospital in Chennai. The film, jointly produced by Ganesh Janardhanan and R. Ganesh and distributed by Dayanidhi Azhagiri's Cloud Nine Movies, was released on April 29, 2011 and received critical acclaim.

Avan Ivan is a 2011 Tamil comedy-drama film written and directed by Bala, who with this project directs his fifth feature film. The film stars Vishal Krishna, Arya, Janani Iyer and Madhu Shalini in the lead roles. The film, produced by Kalpathi S. Agoram's AGS Entertainment, features music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, cinematography by Arthur A. Wilson and editing by Suresh Urs. Set in the backdrops of Theni, Avan Ivan illustrates the relationship between two boisterously playful half-brothers. The film, which was dubbed in Telugu as Vaadu Veedu,released worldwide on June 17, 2011,to mixed critical response.

180 (or Nootrenbadhu) is a 2011 Tamil/Telugu romantic drama film, directed by ad filmmaker Jayendra. Shot simultaneously in the Tamil and Telugu languages, it stars Siddharth, Priya Anand and Nithya Menon with notable roles being essayed by Mouli, Tanikella Bharani and Geetha among others.

Deiva Thirumagal is a 2011 Tamil drama film written and directed by A. L. Vijay and produced by Mohan Natarajan that features Vikram in the lead role as a mentally challenged adult with the maturity of a six-year-old boy, while Baby Sarah, Anushka Shetty, Amala Paul and Nassar portray other pivotal roles.
The film released on 15 July 2011 along with a dubbed version in Telugu, Nanna, to critical acclaim and box office success.

Kanchana is a 2011 Tamil comedy horror film directed, written and produced by Raghava Lawrence as a sequel to his previous venture, Muni (2007). The film features himself in the lead role with Sarathkumar and Lakshmi Rai in other roles.
Tamil actor-director Lawrence will be directing Shahrukh Khan in his Bollywood debut, the remake of the south Indian hit film Kanchana. Initially the buzz was on that the director wanted to cast Salman Khan in the film. According to TOI reports, Sallu's brother Sohail Khan wanted to buy the remake rights of Kanchana. But now the final cast revealed that Salman isn't playing the lead role. Instead, Salman's friend-turned-foe Shahrukh Khan will be the one acting in this film, which will have Sanjay Dutt playing an important character as well.

Engeyum Eppodhum is a 2011 Tamil romantic drama film written and directed by newcomer M. Saravanan. Starring Jai, Anjali, Ananya and Sharvanand, it is produced by A. R. Murugadoss in association with Fox Star Studios.

Mankatha is a 2011 Tamil action thriller film written and directed by Venkat Prabhu. It features Ajith Kumar in the lead role, starring in his 50th film,along with an ensemble cast including Arjun, Trisha Krishnan, Vaibhav Reddy, Lakshmi Rai, Andrea Jeremiah, Premji Amaren and Anjali. It was produced by Dhayanidhi Alagiri's Cloud Nine Movies while Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the musical score and soundtrack, with Sakthi Saravanan working as the cinematographer and the duo Praveen K. L. and N. B. Srikanth as editors. The story, set in Mumbai, revolves around a heist of cricket betting money, executed by a gang of four thieves, who are joined by a fifth unknown man, and its aftermaths.

7aum Arivu is a 2011 Tamil science fiction thriller film written and directed by A. R. Murugadoss. The film is produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin and features Suriya, Shruti Haasan and Johnny Tri Nguyen in the lead roles. Filming began in May 2010, with visual effects for the film were done by Legacy effects, making their second Indian film after Enthiran.

Mayakkam Enna is a 2011 Tamil romantic drama film written directed by Selvaraghavan. It stars his brother Dhanush, along with newcomer Richa Gangopadhyay, and features music scored by G. V. Prakash Kumar while the cinematography was handled by Ramji. Mayakkam Enna depicts the story of an aspiring wildlife photographer and his struggles in life. The film, produced and distributed by Gemini Film Circuit, was released on 25 November 2011. The film received generally positive reviews from the critics.
