A professional assassin, sharp shooter, jet setter, high flyer – that’s how Aadhavan (Suriya) is introduced to the audience. The customary introduction song does not actually set a racy tempo, but is still foot tapping. He never misses his aim and that brings him a big assignment, one that promises crores. A judge all set to report his findings on a sensational case is the target and Aadhavan is ready to shoot. The bullet misses, the judge survives, Aadhavan fails. With crores and a huge reputation to protect, Aadhavan vows to complete the unfinished job. How, when, where? Watch Aadhavan to find out.

The Story of Aadhavan is about Saroja Devi who  plays a rich woman who is the queen of her big mansion and she has 4 sons. The oldest son has a daughter, played by Nayantara and Vadivelu plays as her cook. Surya Sivakumar plays a servant who wishes to take revenge on the household but ends up falling in love with Nayantara.

The film reminds you of various movies, say Rajnikanth starrer ‘Thai Veedu’ which in turn was a remake of Hindi movie ‘Jeet Hamari’. Surya excels with his adeptness over stunts, dialogue deliveries, dance and comedy as well. Vadivelu’s presence over 95% of the film offers more substantiality to the film. Indeed, his comedy tracks are rib-tickling which makes you laugh and enjoy it.

Surya shouldn’t have opted for some dim-witted gestures as the opening sequences about bumping off a Swamiji. A kind request to K.S. Ravikumar: functionality of guns under water would be reduced to extreme level and it would not function properly. But our hero triggers the bullet straight into the target.

Presenting Surya in the negative shade till the penultimate sequence is the biggest minus for the film. At the least, KSR should’ve broken the suspense at intermission and that would have offered a relief to audiences.

Nayanthara looks more aged in her looks and never suits the screens space with Surya. Especially KSR should’ve avoided close-up shots of her face. Saroja Devi is okay while Murali steals the show. Shiyaji Shinde should opt for a yet more challenging role. An actor who made a spellbinding act with his debut film ‘Bharathi’ is spoiling his image over donning certain clichéd roles of a baddie. Rahul Dev sleepwalks through his role.

The costumes over the song are perfect and Surya seems to have strongly demanded for Bollywood type of dresses spotted with Aamir, Salman and Abhishek Bacchan. Cinematography is average and most the shots have been done with Green Matt. Except ‘Hasili Fisili’, none of the songs sound pretty well and it’s a great disappointment from Harris Jayaraj… Harris' background score with English songs is all about inviting ridicule....

Ramesh Khanna doesn’t deserve anything special for penning such stories.

If Vadivelu wasn’t there, things would’ve been unimaginable all throughout the film. K.S.Ravikumar drags the film at many parts, especially the flashback portion. 10yr old Surya wasn’t finely exquisite as it looks more computerized and artificial.

Aadhavan : Surprise Sunrise

Three years after the blockbuster, 'Ghajini', Suriya and Nayantara teamed up in the forthcoming film by K.S.Ravikumar. The film even tough is action oriented, the comedy line of Vadivelu is outstanding...

This is the movie where i truly enjoyed Vadivelu after his non-stop comedy in Superstar's chandiramughi. Ramesh khann who also own the movie as a stoyscripter makes us laugh with his "ilayaman" character : a merger of ILAYAraja and a.r rahMAN

The movie revolves around assassin Aadhavan (Suriya). When his father (Shinde) strikes a deal with Abdul (Dev), whereby Aadhavan must kill a magistrate (Murali) standing in the way of Abdul's freedom, he acquiesces. To Aadhavan's horror, his target survives the hit. Not one to leave a job undone, he comes up with Plan B. As the film is testosterone-charged, Nayanthara's main prerogative is to look good - and she does. After a 10-year break, Devi return in a meaty role. Vadivelu steals the show, while Shinde's performance is nothing to write home about.

Of the songs in the film, Harris Jeyaraj's Hasiliyae Fisliyae is the only one to impresses. Everything else is pretty pedestrian. While the story was conceptualised by Ramesh Khanna, Ravikumar could have spiced it up with some twists.

On the direction side, the action scenes defy logic most of the time. It appears that the director's only criteria was to ensure that the movie was aesthetically pleasing, while substance, unfortunately, took a backseat.

Aadhavan : Masala Mix

Aadhavan’ may have good collections over the box office has producers have planned for perfect scheduling of more shows for the first weekend. On the dot, the film is a polished version of so many yesteryear films and leaves nothing impressive.

The film may make it big in box office, but has nothing substantive to watch out on the screens.
