Vettai
Info
After 'Run' almost ten years ago, director Lingusamy and Madhavan come together in a bid to repeat the magic, this time with added strength. They have young and bubbly Arya to their company.
It is the story of two brothers Gurumurthy (Madhavan) and Thirumurthy (Arya) who share excellent rapport. The former istimid and soft while the latter is bravado. Thiru comes to the rescue of Guru whenever he gets into any trouble. Their father is a police officer. One fine day, the father passes away and Guru is forced to take up his job.
Enters two sisters Vasanthi (Sameera Reddy), a bold and a talkative girl and Jayanthi (Amala Paul) a girl with next-door looks. Interestingly Guru marries Vasanthi and Thiru falls in love with Jayanthi.
There is a dreaded don in the town called Annachi (Ashutosh Rana). He does all evil deeds to keep the town under his grip. Guru cross swords with him and indirectly Thiru helps him win all batle. When things go out-of-control, the brothers join hands and ensures all things ends well.
The movie has catchy cinematography by Nirav Shah. His lens captures the serenity of village well. Brinda Sarathi's dialogues add strength to the script, while Yuvan Shankar Raja's songs are a letdown except Papparappa. Lingusamy has taken a positive theme, that we saw several times before. A sense of deja vu prevails at many places with repeated scenes and cliched twists and turns.

Vettai: Hunting starts
It's Arya's special all the way. He lives the role and utilise the opportunity to perfection. Brisk and brave, his character sticks to heart immediately. He has a good chance to leave a mark with action, humour and romance. Madhavan as timid police officer is tailor-made for the role. Unlike his last Manmadhan Ambu, he gets to play a mass role that is appealing.
Sameera Reddy and Amala Paul both add shine to the screen. They leave their presence well.
Thambi Ramiah is impressive leaving a chuckle. Asutosh Rana plays a typical baddie speaking from his belly.
Multi-starrers are not new to cinema. Interestingly the big Pongal release Nanban and Vettai both are multi-starrers. Vettai brings together Arya and Madhavan for the first time. Interestingly it is a commercial cocktail quite like Lingusamy's eariler ventures, but scores of scenes borrowed from few films that hit the screens before.
It is a tested formula in Tamil cinema. Two brothers and they swap places to achieve a mission. Lingusamy has made it more colourful and appealing. The movie boasts of Sameera Reddy, Amala Paul, Thambi Ramiah and Asutosh Rana among others.
