Chennai Super Kings reigns as the new World Kings !
Mahendra Singh Dhoni after Chennai Super Kings outclassed Warriors to clinch the Champions League T20 title in South Africa on India. It was a memorable double for Chennai after they won the IPL crown earlier this year. And, in the process they have made the sports-mad metropolis that Chennai is, proud.
With the IPL auction looming, it may be the last time all of this Chennai squad would play together, or so it seems. Dhoni has ensured that the motley assortment of cricketers from as varied as places like Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and New Zealand, has stuck together as a unit and performed remarkably well.
They have been the most consistent in the IPL too - finalists in 2008, semifinalists in 2009 and winners this year. This has been possible due to Dhoni’s leadership skills and the quality of players the franchise has lined up and fantastic team spirit. The team’s success this season also owed a lot to coach Stephen Fleming (a former New Zealand captain) and the ‘fantastic’ foreigners. Foreign players like Mike Hussey and Matthew Hayden did a great job in helping out the youngsters and proved to be an inspiration for the Chennai lads, who were out to make a mark on the big stage.
Despite spending less than a week before the CLT20, the Chennai team put up a sterling show, which makes it all the more mind-boggling. It is apparently worth mentioning that the cricketers and Chennai do share an intimate bonding. The team was christened ‘Chennai Super Kings’ after a lot of thought and they have lived up to it, by not only playing good and winning cricket and in the right spirit. Chennai should rate as the foremost among popular sports destination in India and probably the most sporting crowds.
The Chennai team did not let down its legion of fans and the city as such by emerging as the best franchise team in the world. Now, it is time to celebrate their conquests.
