The Biggest Little Master
It was the winter of 1989 when a 16-year old Sachin Tendulkar made his debut for India against Pakistan, their fiercest rivals. He came armed with an already formidable reputation and began the journey that scaled a summit that a few would imagine was possible. Twenty years later, Sachin Tendulkar is a legend among his peers and a colossus that history would place on a heady pedestal. He still plays the game with limitless enthusiasm and continues to enchant.
He did not get a century in his first Test innings; in fact it was not even a half century. For the record, he made 15 before being bowled by another debutant Waqar Younis.
Sachin said in a recent interview that , his strength is, his batting skills, especially the timing and running : “Many of the hundreds I scored, there was a lot of running involved,” he said. I still do my regular routine (at the nets)… You do a lot of running. I always focus more on that aspect of the game. I feel if I could run well between the wickets, most of the other things would be taken care of.”
Master batsman Sachin Tendulkar added another feather to his cap ensuring that his third decade in cricket starts with another unprecedented record as he completed a phenomenal 30,000 runs in international cricket during the Ahmedabad Test on Friday.
The closest to Tendulkar's mark is Australia captain Ricky Ponting, who had recently crossed 24,000 runs.
Tendulkar has 17,178 runs in ODI cricket, 10 runs in the only T20 International he's played, and 12,812 Test runs at the time the landmark was reached.
He holds the record for most ODI and Test runs and centuries. Tendulkar is clearly widening the gap between him and his contemporaries and it is certainly going to be difficult for anybody to catch up with the great batsman.
